Course Description:      Human resource management is designed to provide a systematic analysis of the personnel functions in an organization.  Emphasis is on employee motivation and supervisory skills, employee selection and development, and employee incentives.

Required Materials:       Textbook:  Managing Human Resources, 13th Edition, Sherman, Bohlander, and Snell

Make-up Policy:           Make-up exams are given in cases of school events, student illness, injury, or emergencies within the immediate family.  Students must request permission in advance to receive a make-up examination.  Make-up exams are historically more difficult than the regular scheduled exams.

Attendance Policy:        Students are expected to attend all classes.  Students missing more than three classes will be reported to Mrs. McCoy.

Outside Assignments:    Each student will be required to submit three current event human resource papers.  Topics should come from the seven sections of the textbook.  The papers should be a summary of the article with a reference to the chapter from which the topic came.  Articles should be no older than the year 2000.  The papers should be typed, double spaced, and at least one page long.  The right hand corner should give your name, Title of the Article, Journal, and date of the article.  One paper will be due as assigned on the weekly syllabus.  Late papers will not receive full credit.  You should include a copy of the article with your summary.

Classroom demeanor:   Participation in class is encouraged.  If you have a question about the material, please speak up.  There is a good chance that many of your peers have the same question in mind.  After class starts, please avoid whispering to each other.  It distracts the instructor and other students sitting around you.  Leaving and returning in the same class period also causes a distraction.  Cell-phones are not allowed in class, unless they are turned off.  Ear phones are not allowed in class at any time.  Inappropriate language will not be tolerated in class.  This is a G-rated class.  There are always ladies present and occasionally one or two gentlemen.  These class disturbances can result in a lowering of your overall class grade.

No drinks or food will be allowed in the classroom.

On the day of each test, students should bring a pencil, paper will be furnished.  Once a test is started, students may not leave the classroom for a restroom break.  Tests can be completed in one class setting and you should plan ahead for this inconvenience.

Learning Disabilities:     If you have a learning disability, please inform me after class.  It must be documented before I can consider making certain accommodations such as front row seating and tape recorders.

Academic Integrity:       Any form of cheating n examinations is strictly prohibited.  Students who either provide or receive assistance from other students in regard to examinations will be given the score of “0” for that examination. These students will also be reported to the Academic Dean.  On test nights you should plan on scattering out in the room.  In other words you may not get your favorite seat.  Be sure to bring your own pencil.
