Course Description
A practical course in prevention and care for accident and injury. Topics will include prevention and intervention for drug abuse.
The class lectures and discussions will deal with topics including, but not limited to, CPR, treatment of basic injuries, injury prevention, drug abuse trends, and drug classifications and affects.
Standards:
Drugs and the Human Body with
Implications for Society; Seventh Edition, Ken Liska
Objectives:
The students will be able to execute and demonstrate the proper fundamental of basic First Aid and CPR and achieve proficiency to be certified by the American Red Cross in First Aid and CPR.
Written and verbally explain various illegal and legal drugs. The presentation needed to include: history, ingredients, and effects of proper and improper use of the drugs. Ethical and moral implications are also investigated. Gain information concerning personal safety.
Grading:
Students will be evaluated subjectively using exams, written papers, class participation, attendance, and skills evaluation. Skills evaluation will primarily be based on the student’s ability to correctly perform CPR.

Final Grades for the class will be assigned using a 10-point grading scale:
A – 100% - 90%
B – 89% - 80%
C – 79% - 70%
D – 69% - 60%
F – 59% - 0%
* The
American Red Cross Association Adult, Children, and Infant CPR/First Aid
certification will be available to all students. It will require a $45 fee payable to the
American Red Cross Association.
