Course Description: Designed to develop proficiency in administering and interpreting diagnostic procedures in speech and language disorders with specific methods and materials for remediation.
Purpose: The purpose of this course is to introduce the students to the principles and philosophies of assessment in speech-language pathology and to provide the tools necessary for performing and interpreting diagnostic evaluations and making clinical decisions regarding treatment.
Course Objectives: Through class participation, written assignments, and examinations:
1. The student will demonstrate knowledge and skills effectively in oral and written form in regards to assessment and diagnostic procedures for Communication Disorders.
2. The student will demonstrate understanding of communication disorders and apply that understanding in carrying out treatment plans.
3. The student will demonstrate knowledge and skills specific to providing speech-language services in a school setting in order to function as a contributing member of a collaborative team.
4. The student will demonstrate an understanding of the basic psychometric principles including standardization, validity and reliability for various assessments as well as working with multicultural clients.
5. The student will be able to gather information, interpret assessment data, and report assessment findings in a professional form with case history, assessment summary, and eligibility guidelines from the state, federal and local laws and policies in regards to public schools.
6. The student will demonstrate an understanding of the various assessment materials, techniques, and guidelines that are specifically designed to address the unique characteristics of articulation, fluency, language, voice, dysphasia, or neurologically based disorders.
Course Assignments:
* Note: All assignments: 3 points off for each day
late.
1. Two Examination – In order to assess the students overall learning throughout
the term, mid-term and final exams will be given.

7. Class participation and ATTENDANCE is mandatory for success. Each class is
worth one point per class. ( Two points off per missed class)
Grading Systems: Points earned on each of the following tasks will be
converted to percentages.
Two Examinations 100 points
Vocabulary quizzes 20 points
Four Test – Trial testing 40 points
Test Evaluation Form 15 points
Case Study 30 points
Diagnostic File 30 points
Attendance 15 points
The following departmental grading scale will be
used to compose your final grade:
A 90
- 100
B 80 – 89
C 70 – 79
D 60 – 69
F Below

* Attendance Policy:
Attendance is required in this class.
Students absent from class must obtain instructors approval prior to
being allowed to make-up quizzes, assignments, tests, etc... The instructor reserves the right to adjust
the grade or refuse to accept late assignment.
